Comflicting DOB / Offical Register - is this the same person ?

Hey

I am trying to track down Alice Saunders who I know married married an Mr Rothen ( I believe it was Albert ) however the record I have found shows that her birth was registered in Q1 1909 however the back up entry I have found in 1939 shows her date of birth as being Oct 1910 .

Is it common to have mistakes this like or am I barking up the tree of the wrong person ?

I have attached snips from the offical record ( via FMP ) and then the 1939 register .

Alice is deceased so I understand there are no issues posting this .

Anyone able to give me a quick pointer please?

Thanks

That appears to be the wrong 1939 register. She and Albert are listed at 13 Mintern Road. She went on to re-marry a Mr Beech and appears to have died in 1972.
well, well, well.... I got to ask, how did you find this out ? I only ask as I am clearly searching in the wrong way or place :)

They married in 1929 so you need to search for her as Rothen on 1939.
The Alice you found does not seem to marry as there is no green name change.

It looks like you were searching for Alice Saunders but you should have been searching for Alice Rothen. 1939 Register lists her as Alice Beech (Rothen) which indicates a name change, usually because of a marriage.
Thank you, I have paid accounts for both FMP and Ancestry but I guess I am struggling with how to search correctly, I have names, various addresses etc but just need to get my head around how the search works I guess - thanks for the help, really do appreciate it and you saved me lots of dead time

ahh is that what the pen green is on the 1939 register ? when they marry, a moderate of sorts goes in, changes the record and records the date of the change ?

Yes - the register was regularly updated and was used for NHS registration when the NHS was formed.
Register is still being updated to open closed/redacted names once people either die or become over 100
