Coleshill

Does anyone remember the Army & Navy surplus store on the corner of the High Street and Blythe Road? It was a fantastic store, you could buy anything from genuine used WW2 leather flying jackets and boots to blue 'Demob' hats and suits to sidearm holsters. I still have a pair of Aviators goggles that I purchased from there. I wonder what happens to surplus gear these days?

A little Coleshill history. The Sons of Rest Pavillion (does this still exist ?). The former location of the Old Hall is given. It was a moated manor and was demolished in 1810. And some named houses which are no longer standing, although perhaps the 'yards' mentioned still exist as business units ?

I do, after it closed the building became something like “Chalk and Linen” and I think it sold decorating materials. It’s now a cafe and it seems to be doing well.

Wondering if the following part of the caption by Birmingham Archives that accompanied Stone's image in post #1 is accurate

"Showing the Swan Hotel and the main street in Coleshill".

The blue dot on the comparison below is the Swan Hotel in High Street, which has existed from at least 1859.
