Tiny

master brummie
need a little help while sorting through the late mother in laws possessions we came across these two Items we believe they once were Claire's Grandfather poss friends who served with him at some time he himself served in the Cameron Highlanders during the second world war
each plate reads Coldstream Guards 23907729 Freeman B second plate reads Scot Guards 2695609 J.Newsham.
could anyone shed some light on these and if they lived through the war

hi tiny
These are name plates issued to you when you are at the guards depot, they lasted I think right up to the 1990's. The two numbers 2390 would be around 1959/60 and the 2395 would be around 1962/63. I believe they originate from the early 19th C when they were a name tag and Reg't ID when injured or killed in battle if you see any paintings of the Guards at Waterloo they are sometimes shown in a pocket in the backpack. They may have been issued to other line Regt's .
