Clevedon Road Balsall Heath

Clevedon Road had a single tram track as can be seen in the photo (post 1971). This was the outbound track to Cannon Hill, route 37. Due to the narrow streets in most of of Balsall Heath trams only ran in one direction on many roads, returning t town using another road. This earned the area the nickname of the Chinese Railway.

Does anyone know please which Clevedon Road this one is, please ? Would it be Moseley or Balsall Heath ?

Only know of one. This photo was taken pre WW1, when the building on the front left was the Calthorpe Arms. This was badly damaged in the war and I took a photo of it in 1970, just before demolition. This is in my Birmingham photo thread, but is also below, together with map to show position

Thanks all. Have created this thread with posts from another thread. I started the thread off with a wonderful photo originally posted by the late Oldmohawk - lots of interest from residents/shoppers, children, and shopkeepers, all out on the street to see what was going on.

Here are some photos of Clevedon Road. First the remains of the Parker & Osborne glass factory immediately after bombing and site later (in red on map). Then the Bookies on the corner with Cox Street West, around 1970,. previously a doctor's surgery, and apparently at one time at least partly site of a Severn Street Adult school class, though I have not been able to find a reference to this use (green on map). Finally, from about the same time, Lynox chemists and the confectioners run by Mrs Winifred Ena Farmer (blue on map)
