All I have to go on is my great great grandfather was called John Clarke. He was a brass castor from Birmingham. He lived in Bolton rd ,Small Heath circa 1900s. He had several children including my great grandfather, Bernard Clarke born around 1906.At age 21, Bernard married Edith May Hands-she was 18 from bertha rd,Greet in Brum. Her father was Henry Hands , a plater. They married at Saint Annes Roman Catholic Church 20th oct 1927 in Alcester Steet,Birmingham. I have the names of his brother Hector and sister Rose both Clarkes.

I've found the marriage the certificate, and I know Bernard died in around 1942 in WW2 as we have his war records, but he apprently was one of 13 children, so I must have many family members out there I can't find!

Anyone think this rings a bell?

Welcome mi-mi another Great Barr dweller that about 5 now:).

I'm sure you will get some joy soon knowing the Folks here so enjoy.

Hi & Welcome mi-mi :) Got "Clarke" on this site already, Hopefully you may "Click"
Check around the Surnames section,, They will love to hear from you,
ps Probably best to try to track down Bernard Clarke birth 1st,,
Then this give you his Mom & Dad,,so you can go to 1901 Census accurately,
This then give you older siblings (Bernard 1906/7 possible middle of 13 ?)

This may be your "Bernard Clarke" born 1906 B,ham ref 6d page 61 1st Quarter,
But cross-check 1st as there are others around that time frame,
Edward Bernard C, born B,ham 1908,Bernard Louis C, born 1908
Bernard C, 1904 & a Bernard C, 1903,

Best regards JohnY

I've had a quick look at the other Clarkes, but it doesn't seem there is a link :( Never know though!

I've had a quick look for his birth certificate on ancestry.co.uk but there is a lot of Bernard Clarkes born around the same time in similar areas. When I get chance i'll have to go to the library.

I know that a few years ago my nan did contact someone living at Castle Brom, who was related to her but she lost her number and they never met up. This lady was 80 something years old so she may not still be with us, but at least I know there is some family in the area somewhere.

I also have Clarke in my family . His name was John William Clarke and was my grandfather . He was in the pioneer corps in WW2. He died on the night of the Birmingham bombings Nov 1942 ,in a masionette in whittington oval . His son Thomas died that night too . Their names are on the memorium .
The rest of the family was Reg Clarke , Rosalind , Margerite , Kathleen and another girl whos name I cant remember .
Its very odd but I know nothing about him as my mum was only 9 when he died . Anyone out there know anything ?

It's been a long scince i posted on thsi forum but I have alot more information. I am now looking for a Michael David Clarke b 1943 or a Bernard Clarke b1933. There father was Edward Hector Clarke and Mother Mary Florence Clarke formerley Brierley. Any help would be great as these people may still be alive or may be somebodies grandparents.

They were born in bordesley green but may have moved. I have many other family members names if anyone is unsure.
