I'm looking for anything on Alfred CLARKE and Sarah (Turner) CLARKE, husband and wife.

Sarah died 23 Dec. 1932, Erdington district, age 74. No birth information.

No information on Alfred at all, other than that he was a glass blower.

They had a daughter, Edith Mary, born 28 April 1899 Birmingham; died 26 Sept 1982 Vancouver Canada. Other children were Alice, Frank, Jack, and the a daughter listed on Sarah's death certificate, G. Bowen.

They're proving to be a tough branch on the tree! Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi matchpoint

Firstly, i cannot find Alfred and Sarah with their family in the 1901 Census.
I have also looked for the birth of Edith Mary in Birmingham in the period you give, not there. There was two other births in the same period and place --

Edith Marjorie Clarke 2nd qtr 1899 Aston 6d 416
Edith May Clarke 2nd qtr 1899 Birmingham 6d 213

If you don't already have this i would send for it, apart from anything else it will have the name of both of their fathers on there.

Thanks for that information. I didn't have it before. The children's names don't add up. I can only think that these children passed away, though Edith never mentioned that. If that's not the case, I'm at a loss. It's like something in the family stories just isn't true.

One question: were prison inmates counted on the census or was there a separate record for them?

Sarah is the head of the house, with her are her two daughters from the 1881 census and now a son, the other three women are her sisters.

No chance of this Alfred being the father of Alice, Frank and Jack who you mentioned in your first post, this looks like his death --

Alfred Clark 31yrs 2nd qtr 1884 Aston 6d 209.

This is either the wrong family or there is a lot more to find out in later years but as yet i cannot find anything better.
Might help if you tell us everything you know or have been told, as with a lot of these "family stories" there is always an element of both fact and fiction in the attempt to "hide" something.

Someone else might look at this and spot something, we hope :D

Sorry, forgot to answer your question, yes the enumerator listed all those in prison on the day of the census, in theory nobody escaped the enumerator ;) :D

Not sure if this is any help at all, but it gives you something to ponder on at least.

Thanks, bren! Your information did turn out to be correct. It turns out that Sarah remarried another man named Clark/Clarke after Alfred died and the family tree descends from that second husband. Very complicated! So, a new request...

Any suggestions on finding information on Frank Clark, born circa 1863 in Northern Ireland? Is there an Irish genealogy website or census information online that anyone can recommend?
