Church Service before burial

Hi, as this is my first post I hope I am doing it correctly. Does anyone know if a person was buried in one of the Birmingham cemetaries between say 1870 and 1930 would they have had a church service first ( and be listed in that churches register) or would they have just had a service at the cemetary chapel. Many thanks

This would be, as it is now, and purely a personal choice. Today you can just go straight to cemetery or crematorium, or you can also have a church service. It would depend on whether the person concerned was a church-goer or not. If there was a church service and then they were buried in a cemetery, the burial would not be recorded in the church records, but only that of the cemetery (or crematorium).
