Cherry Orchard Primary School, Handsworth

Good Evening All,

I'm wondering if anyone can help or discuss further.

I have searched the web and this site (fantastic) for information on Cherry Orchard and found some wonderful pictures and anecdotes from former pupils. However, I am having a hard time finding anything out about the time I was there which was in the 1980s--I periodically through the years search but always come back with minimal results.

Is anybody out there?

Thanks so much for reading,
hi pluto and welcome...hopefully we may have members that were at the school at the same time as you and will add their memories...in the meantime maybe you could start us off by adding your own and give us the names of your old school friends...all the best

Definitely, Lyn! Even if I don't find more information I am so glad that I found this forum. You all have a fantastic archive and reading everyones own stories/anecdotes and seeing pictures from the past is absolutely wonderful. You're all very kind too, thank you. :)

enjoy the forum pluto...there is so much to read and learn on here about the history of birmingham

The school looks like it's still going strong. This is the information from British History Online

"CHERRY ORCHARD ROAD COUNTY PRIMARY SCHOOL, Handsworth Wood. Opened 1947 by Birm. C.B.C. accom. 300 JM. Reorganized 1948 by amalgamation of Wood Lane Temporary Cty. Primary Sch. with it: Wood Lane's accom. of 100 I (in pavilion on Handsworth Wood Playing Fields) unchanged but became part of this sch. Enlarged 1950. Accom. 1961: 12 classrooms, hall"

This history above mentions a pavilion, I wondered if that's the one in 'Hamstead' Playing Fields ?

These are before your time Pluto but might be of interest to you or others who went to the school. .
