charlesworth/bradley

Charlie

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
Could someone please do a lookup for the marriage of John Charlesworth and Rosina (sp varies) Bradley in Aston, March 1848?
I have this information from Free BMD, but when I went to the B'ham Register Office yesterday, that reckon it wasn't a match. John married on this date, but NOT to R. Bradley (she said the entry looked nothing like a Rosina or Bradley)!
I have them on all census from 1851 as John and Rosina or Rosehannah and I can't find another marriage for them. Rosina (Rosehannah) was born in Pattingham c1823, John in Wolverhampton c1822. They then lived in Birmingham.
Any help appreciated.

Rosanna

Hello Charlie, Ancestry. records show Rosanna Bradley marry
John Charlesworth March Quarter 1848, reference 16 page 251

Registry Office usually very good but maybe you got a "newbie 1"
Try them again quoting the Ancestry references above,
I can,t trace/match your John C with anyone else (1848)
Best regards John Y

edit, PS the actual marriage certificate could be badly handwritten/copied,
May read Shushhanna (simlar) Braidlay or something . Due to
pronunciations & very view Spell/write own names,, Marks X,s etc

Thanks John and Alberta, that's the information I had! Can't understand why they said that it was nothing like Rosanna Bradley on the cert. Even a miss-spelling or faded cert would show a similarity, wouldn't it? Especially since I gave them all the info I had! She said it was nothing like Rosanna, Rosina or Rosehannah Bradley. Very strange.

I really don't understand! Royal Mail have just delivered the marriage certificate that didn't exist  (I paid 32p extra for 1st class delivery, but full marks to the Register Office for sending it so quickly...no marks to Royal Mail for such late deliveries!!). However, I now don't have the death cert that they said they were posting cos that was right.
Oh well...back to square one I guess and I'll have to apply for that one again.

I emailed the Register Office and had the reply that the Marriage Cert WAS right - but the wife's name on the death cert WASN'T!
John Charlesworth was born in 1822, the death cert was for a John Charlesworth who died in 1886 in Birmingham aged 64, and this was the only one I could find (there aren't that many Charlesworths in Brum, they're mostly oop north). I can't see where John remarried at all, and was certainly with Rosanna on the 1881 census.
Well stumped now!!
Can anyone find a death for Rosanna (Rosina, Rosehannah) Charlesworth between 1880 and 1886?
I doubt they divorced so I've no idea what's going on. Maybe I'll apply again for he death cert just using John's name and see who the wife was...whaddya think?

Well Charlie he is there:
Deaths Jun 1886 Charlesworth John 64 Birmingham 6d148

Maybe, it only had initials like on my Granddads and not the full name of his spouse, or just Anna, or Annie.
I would send for it, as no other seems to come close.

Not sure if this will help BUT:
In 1891 Census....
Piece: RG12/2373 Place: Birmingham -Warwickshire Enumeration District: 42
Civil Parish: Birmingham Ecclesiastical Parish: St Johns
Folio: 104 Page: 1 and 2 Schedule: 5
Address: 1 Ct 4 Hse Osler St

Surname First name(s) Rel Status Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
CHARLESWORTH Jane Head W F 68 - Staffordshire - Pattingham
CHARLESWORTH John Son S M 33 Hammer Driver(Em'ee) Warwickshire -
BRADBURY Charles Grnson S M 15 Metal Roller(Em'ee) Warwickshire - Birmingham
WORTON Charles Grnson S M 7 Scholar Warwickshire - Birmingham

Similar Surname for Charles and he could have been mistranscribed from Nephew and it would be her right age and place of birth, could her second name have been Jane maybe!

Pom and Alberta: I bet that's it! She decided to call herself Jane because she was bored after years of being called Rosanna!!!!!!
So I expect gt gt grandfather DID die in 1886 (your death entry matches the info I gave to the Register Office, Pom) but she put her name down as JANE (silly woman). She had to 'make her mark' when she got married, so maybe she'd learned how to spell 'Jane' and that was the clincher. Many thanks to everyone, I'll apply again for the cert in the near future and just use John's name. Rumour has it there was a murder in my family........so you never know! Maybe it referred to Jane murdering Rosanna!!!!!:D
