Here are my Nan and Grandad standing up with Dad and Uncle.

Thanks for that link Vivienne. I seem to recall a descendant of the Lander family tried once to make sports or racing cars under the name of Rednal. A Lucas colleague being despatched to look at the viability of supplying wiring systems for them.

This is an outing from Bournville. Looks like several charabanc's were hired for the occasion. Viv.

This time we know their destination. It's the Alfred Bird & Co workers annual outing in 1922. They were off to Stratford. I'm intrigued to know what it is they're holding in their hands. Viv.

Viv I have studied the photo and still can't work out what they are holding. It is obviously something from Bird's. I remember my mother had an old tin of baking powder that had the same checkerboard pattern. I still have no idea what they are though.

My photo is around 1922-3. (The Rhyl one).
I wonder if the "mystery objects" in the Bird's picture are periscopes for looking over a crowd?
rosie.

Viv

I think they had hoods that covered that covered all the seating, if I'm wrong I'm sure somebody will put me right.

Yes indeed most had folding hoods of varying strength and effectiveness! Speaking with my bus enthusiast hat on the first in the line isn't actually a charabanc but all the others are...

Presumably this was either about to set off on an outing or all the passengers are in the pub (the White Swan, Harborne). It's about 1920s and has a name above the engine and a logo on the side. No idea what they say. Viv.

Great photo Pete. And there's a coach station on Mr Sugden's site today
