Catholic schools in Brum, 1960s/1970s

Hello Spud. The priest was Canon Augustine Emery. I went to St Mary's School, fronting on Hunter's Road and backing on Brougham Street. Canon Emery was parish priest in St Francis parish for years and took the boys from St Mary's for PE and football. I remember him as a very decent man who gave a lot of his time to us. It's a good photo. If you are interested, there is a former pupils' reunion each year in June for people who went to both St Francis' School and St Mary's. It is held in the convent on Hunter's Road. Paul

Hiya Y'all my name is Paul Hyland, I went to St.Francis school in Brougham Street 1959-1965/66. I remember cannon Emery well, a very kind man, if he entered the playground, the whole school would flock to him, he knew most of us by name and gave generously of his time. I also remember sister Collette, she was very strict, and for a nun, not very Christian towards us kids. Anyone remember Mr Woods? What about miss mclouchlin? The best teacher there towards '64-65 was miss Flynn. I was so glad to leave that school, I have bad memories of it mainly. I'd love to hear what my fellow pupils think, and any memories you may have
Cheers,
Paul
