I am looking for any connections or information on two sisters Alice Mary CATCHPOLE 1898 and Dorothy Mabel Catchpole 1895 both born (Glastonbury) Registered Wells Somerset. I believe they both came to Birmingham and worked in service. Alice married a Frederick George Edwards 25 June 1918 in the Parish church at Bordesley Birmingham. I believe Dorothy married an Arthur Victor PHILPOTTS in 1923 in Kings Norton. I have no further information on them after these events and would love to hear from anyone with any information.

Regards bob Newell

Arthur Victor and Dorothy Mabel Philpotts are listed at 46 Hillfield Rd, Sparkhill in 1935. I can't trace the other two.

Hi there, found the following birth cert details,if it helps
Births Sep 1919
Dorothy G Edwards, mothers maiden name Catchpole
Wells vol 5c page 558

Thats a great start LLoyd at least I know now that they do exist. I think that it would be a a million to one to have two surnames and christian names together like that. I think now that I can say that it is definitely my Dorothy Catchpole. It is amazing how far people used to go to get work. My wifes mother Ruby May Catchpole was married in Eastbourne. Both Birmingham and Eastbourne are quite a distance from Glastonbury. Their parents Walter James Catchpole died in 1941 he was a Railway carpenter. I have a death I believe for their mother Elizabeth nee Clark in 1962 in Birmingham. As they lived in a Railway cottage I presume that Elizabeth had to vacate the premises and went to live with Either Alice or Dorothy, I wonder which and when. all of these thing will be soleved eventually when I can afford on my pension to get some certificates. meanwhile back to the mill

I know the mother was from Well (Glastonbury) but was the baby born there, as it would seem that it was Alice and Fredericks child

I see from the record that the child was registered in Wells I wonder why she went back there. Why didn't we ask these questions when the relatives were alive.

Dorothy Mabel Catchpole in the 1911 census is a domestic servant with the household of Frederick Perry Checkley and family (he is an Ironmonger) at 4 High St Glastonbury. She is 15 yrs old, born Glastonbury.
Alice is still at home with parents Walter James and 'Elibeth' Jane Catchpole, and younger siblings, 68 Benedict St, Glastonbury.

Thnaks LLoyd I have all the history of the Catchpoles up to the 1911 but thank you for the interest. I know that Elizabeth was at Benedict street till the mid 40's as my wife was taken there when she was small. Her mothers other siblings Were Ethel Madge and Frederick who both married local and lived in Poole, one other Margery only lived a year.

Hi Linda it looks like she went back home to have the baby, I wonder why. LLoyd has also said that there is no information after her marriage, so perhaps they moved.
