Thanks so much, alf. I do have this and it did enable me to start tracking. I have no real info on my grandparents, Lililan and John. Beness is actually Veness. I have info on veness, a little on smith & carters, but zero on cotterell.

Hi I may very well be completely 'off beam' - but does your Carter family include a man called Vivian - he would now be in his mid-90's. I think he also had a brother called Horace. Before the 2nd WW part of the Carter family lived near Manchester. I think they may have married a Smith from near Manchester.

Louisa Cotterell, born abt 1874 Birmingham, was mother of my grandmother and wife to Thomas Charles Smith b 1880. Her parents are james Cotterell born abt 1839 and Louisa ?
i know nothing else about her/them.
