Seeking a child born 1947-48. Mothers name is Josephine Carpenter. Child would have been put in adoptive care. Sad circumstances as would have been born in a Rescue Home situated in Birmingham area . Daughter doing research, mum still alive. Live in australia. Anyone knowing anyone looking for their birth mother ( if it is on their adoptive certificates or birth registrar ) email [email protected]

Welcome to the Forum.

How certain are you of the dates - 1947-48 and also that the child was born in Birmingham.

there is a birth of robert carpenter apr-jun 1948 bham. mothers maiden name carpenter so probably a single mother

Oh thanks for that Shera. Where did you find maiden names. I have a list of Carpenter surname babies born for the Library records , but they have no records of the mothers name .. This is a start, hopefully the memories will get clearer for her and we will be able to have more exact dates. Is there a registary number that may go with this maybe.
Great to have somewhere to ask, maybe someone remembers her from one the rescue homes .I have posted stuff on the Moseley link and the Egbaston ( Hope Lodge, Madgalen home. ) Anyone knowing of others in the region??

from about 1911 onwards the birth records included mothers maiden names so if a single woman named carpenter had a child it would be carpenter, mothers maiden name carpenter. on the other hand the woman with name carpenter may have married a man named carpenter so its not 100% certain she was a single woman. in this case i couldnt see a recent marriage of carpenter to carpenter.

the registration details for the birth of robert carpenter apr-jun 1948 birmingham 9c 854

Janet ,when you send for the certificate you can give the criteria that the mother must be Josephine Carpenter that way you will not pay for an incorrect one.

thanks albeta. Being in Queensland very unsure of where to start to ask for info... Have about six more names form history archives to ask for so maybe they will now have an interent site and payment site so I can send off for birth certificate stuff over the net. ?

thanks for the quick response. Something solid to do at last. May come to nothing but if they are looking at finding their mum and on the registrar- wonderful . Anyone with Josesphine Carpenter ( no middle name) as their birth mother, born around that time in that area, ( Birmingham , Warickshire. )please contact me. Mums nearly 80 and I am only 50. Live in Australia.
