GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
I'm looking for a John b.abt 1885 and Jane b. abt 1878 Carless. they married in 1909. I cant find them on the 1911 census or Electoral rolls. Would someone kindly have a look to see if I have missed something please. I would be very grateful for any help. Thanks.
Lynne.

I can't find them on the census but on the marriage record John's date of birth is given as 1875.

HI LYNN
May be they was not married have you thought of that; if i recall it correctly his family was on the forum about eight to nine years ago
and there was the carles family family then on it and my old mate met a carles and lived together for years and never got married and as a couple of kids
whom are now married men there was a big family of carles s,s from erdinton;and surrounding area best of luck , astonian;

There is a marriage on Ancestry of John Carless to Jane James dated 6 February 1909 at the church of St Stephen Birmingham. Both Fathers are deceased and are John Carless and David James. The groom's occupation looks like collier and both give their address as 30 Pritchett Street.

Hello Janice, sorry I had pressed the wrong key, it should be 1875. I have seen the marriage cert and all the info tells me she is the right rellie but I just cant find her after.
Thanks for looking everyone
Lynne.

There was a family named Carless who lived at the back of my grandparents in New John Street in the 1940/1950s, the only name I recall is Bella who was the mother, at that time Bella would have been in her 60s or maybe 70s.

There's only one Carless child with mother's maiden name James listed between 1911 and 1931 on freeBMD and that's an Edna M in 1914 Basford district. Which was a mining area. Don't know if that's of any use.

Birmingham baptism records on Ancestry list the baptism of a Mary Jane Carliss (probably a misspelling) on 17 Mar 1909 daughter of John and Jane at St Stephens. The address is also 30 Pritchett Street.
There are 2 earlier baptisms for children of a John and Jane Carless but those dates are before 1909.

Thanks Janice, thats must be right having the same address as the Marriage Cert. I found 3 bapts from before the marriage, John, William and David and do think they are theirs as well. Thanks again for all your help.
Lynne.

Lyn,
There was a Carless family that lived in Clissold Street on the corner of New Spring Street, Brookfields (now I believe comes under Winson Green) they were caretakers to the Coal Wharf right on the corner of the two streets.
This was in the Thirties and Forties when I lived in New Spring Street

Sylvia, sorry for the delay in replying, I found an Isabella but sadly shes not one of mine, thanks for the info though.

Brookieboy, I'll look into that, maybe theres a connection.
Thanks again.
Lynne.
