I have a CARFIELD "baby"bike ,made in Windmill Street Smethwick in 1922,and have been told the Company went bust in 1925,.147cc with a belt drive=1 1/2horsepower,I have ridden it for many years, but, with todays traffic ,not now.I believe the Company was Carter&Fieldhouse, and they did not pay the rates on the premises, the council closed them,I take it that this was in the Great Depression,
I still have an ARIEL LEADER [1958 no 170]and an ARROW,All made by the hands of BIRMINGHAM men and women.
Still with the GREAT CITY ,my 1985 Land Rover 90 still going well at 197000miles thanks to Brummies!! Allen
