Car registration numbers

Nick - I have a C180 Elegance at present, other half has a 300 SLE, we have had 230C, 190E, E190, 250C, 250 TD, 300C, 250D plus a few others I cant remember, just got my million K's badge from Mercedes Stuttgart. Majority of Mercs here in NZ are white. Have a friend who has a 2009 B Class 230 - he is about to send it to the "breakers" he is so fed up with it and he has only had it for 2 months and most of the time it has spent back at the dealership getting "sorted out"..........oops. Also have a friend who has a C230 Station wagon and you could not prise it off him - I know I have tried!!

hi guys
can anybody tell me if i contact the motor taxation dept ;
that i am intrested to trace a vech; owner of a rover way back in74-5.
would it be possible to tell me the name of the person and at that time whom was the owner
for that period whom was the actual owner i do know the registration of this vech;
also if i was to try and track a vechiel down but not quite sure of the registration
but i knew the make of the van and the named and registered keeper.
could they trace it and tell me whether this van was scrapped or not ?.
And my last question would be how much of a fee do they charge for checking records
here,s hoping some-body can help best wishes astonian ;;;

hi ray
hope you had a nice xmas and i wish you a very happy new year
well ray ;regarding the car ; no as you know its not the car;
wrong colour and wrong registration
i do not want to expose the personal details of the particular car, but i have got to say this car as been scrapped at some time in point in years gone bye
when i first seen it and encountered it it was in a imacurate condition,
then five or six tears ago later it did look like a wreck standing on somebodys drive up the station rd stechford
just before the nick ; it was a sad state but i do have a very personal intrest in this vech;
like the mini van of the 69-70,s era that was scrapped as i have been told
i was wondering what do they charge for a fee to obtain these records from the department
well ray speak to you soon best wishes alan ;;

This covers your request - but you do not meet criteria.However you sould still contact DVLA asking them to get last owners permission to be contacted by you

Is there any way to trace a cars history by it's number plate, I have a picture of an old car with ABX 764.......I contacted DVLA and they said they had no records at all....

ABX was issued by Carmarthenshire licensing authority between March 1938 and June 1939, so early 1939 would be my guess for ABX 764.

Here it was in its first incarnation, a 1947 Standard Flying 8 tourer I bought to take apart and learn about cars with, and eventually scrapped.

Hi Lloyd - Just seen this reference to GDG326. I own that now and have done for the last 20 years. Would love to see the picture you referred to can you repost it?
Its now lives on an A5 GDG 326 2012.jpg
thanks, Gareth

I like this photo of a police car parked by the Hall of Memory. Not sure of the date, looks 1950s/60s perhaps. But always felt they missed an opportunity here - number plate shouldn't have been TOP, and should have been COP. I also like the position of the wing mirrors, much further forward on the bonnet. And look at that bell, straight out of a Lavender Hill Mob scene. Viv.

My other half worked at the Motor Tax in Ouzells Street and taxed a Rolls Royce PEN 15 There was also a yellow TR5 with PEN 1S on it also taxed at Ouzells Street.

I remember as a child my das had 2 cars .reg nos. Were dlc735......and hoh80...i cant remember the make of the cars tho....but we used to clean and polish the big chrome headlights and bumpers....

Yes I think I can - but not for a few weeks, as I'm in Wales on holiday at the moment, and have recently moved house & not unpacked the photos yet.
It was on an early post-WW2 Standard "Flying 8" Drop-head tourer, dark maroon I think. Here's a page about the model.

In 1951 my father had a Standard 9 reg no BOM 1, In the 1970's one of my brothers had a Consul Mk 2 reg no TOK 1, and the other brother also had a Consul Mk 2 reg no VEA 1 if only they had known then, what they would be worth today ! The older brother in the 1980's owned a Triumph Stag with the reg 2 HOP he used to tell people it stood for " too hard on petrol " I believe that was sold with the car..

For many years the Mayor's car in Derby RR1 then they had a good offer for it and it was sold.Can remember Enid's brother having the old style Ford pop, three gears, that was LOP72.

Viv,

I would go either for a A50 Cambridge or A90 Westminster, both 1954-56. As it's the police you'd assume it was the latter, bigger and more powerful. They both had a similar appearance. But if had to choose I'd go for the A50 simply because I can't find any A90 picture online with the (blurry) logo on the front wing. The latter will almost certainly read "Austin of England" - those were the days!

Chris
