Cape Schools and the Birmingham Workhouse Schools

Cape School (Primary) opened 1888, Smethwick and was, allegedly also known as Hendersons school. Henderson is also linked to the Birmingham Workhouse I believe - he was on the workhouse Board of Guardians. From BHO:

Cape Hill School, or Henderson's School.
In 1846 John Henderson of the London Works built a day and Sunday school in the Cape Hill district. It was apparently rebuilt in 1854. It was still standing in 1857 off what is now Montague Road, but it probably did not long survive Henderson's bankruptcy in 1856.

Trying to work my way through a long "heritage statement" but did spot this
Significant additions in the 1930s included the construction of the Art Deco style Maternity building, which necessitated the demolition of the workhouse girls’ school and part of the workhouse male epileptic wards, and the substantial northwards extension of the nurses’ home.

Between the Geriatric Office Block and the Pathology Group stands the Child Development Centre, which occupies the surviving workhouse Boy’s School. The building was not part of the original workhouse but had been added to the complex by the time of the publication of the 1888
Ordnance Survey. The rather plain T-plan building has been degraded by modern replacement windows and a large flat-roofed extension on the west
side. A matching T-plan Girls’ School that stood further south, was demolished to make way for the Maternity block.

I imagine the building is earmarked for demolition as it is not part of the original 1852 buildings.

That's great Janice. So we have c1888 (possibly before) for the boys' school building! At least 138 years old. Thanks.
