This church was opened in 1930, the earlier church/meeting house having been founded as far back as 1737 in Cannon Street, Birmingham. The Birmingham Cannon Street Meeting House was compulsorily purchased and demolished in 1875 when Corporation Street was cut through. Services were, thereafter, held in various locations such as Mount Zion, Graham Street. But increasing suburban migration meant declining congregations.
Land was bought in Handsworth for a new church with work starting in 1929 and completing in 1930. The Cannon Street Memorial Baptist Church was designed by architect Francis B. Andrews, as a blend of traditional and modern architecture.
It exists today, still as the Cannon Street Memorial Baptist Church, at the junction of Soho Road (#300) and Alfred Road.
