Does anyone have any info regarding operators of handsome cabs from the mermaid pub sparkbrook. My ancestors used to operate from there (Hopkins') This would be late 1800's.

I found this picture of the Mermaid taken in 1910. The round structure outside the pub was the ticket office for the horse drawn cabs.
Hope this is of some use to you.

Thanks postied, a good pic.
There are family stories of one of my ancesters, a handsom cab driver, who used to play cards with the other drivers while waiting for a fare. It's said his wife became irate at him always losing his income and made him get a proper job at the local funeral directors. I even have the reciept for his own funeral, from the very same company.

I love these stories, just wish we could proove or disprove some.
