My grandfather Frederick J Bull, lived in Ladypool Road Sparkbrook he was given a small silver 'award' saying "PRESENTED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE CITY MEAT MARKET FOR WRESTLING 4min 10sec with TARO MYAKI" I have tried to find out more but with no success, so I have also just joined this forum........ Good Luck!!

There is a little info on Miyake at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taro_Miyake. He came to Britain in 1905, and was responsible for promoting judo into the UK and wrote, with another author, one of the first books in English on the sport. Apparently he worked for a time as a musical wrestler, which is presumably where the award came from. An award presented to someone in Bristol in 1905 is shown (half way down page ) at https://www.thekickboxer.co.uk/GALLERY.htm

Thanks, my grandad was born around 1875, so I'll guess he was probably in his thirties when he got the award, at least its a bit of a time-line. I know from my cousin that his wrestling name was something like Bull the butcher and remembers him having newspaper cuttings about his wrestling, but I'm not having much success. I keep ending up with Bill the butcher or the bull ring when I try to google it, but many thanks, he seemed a challenging opponent, something my grandad must have been proud of.
