BROWNE'S GREEN SCHOOL

The school seems to have been founded in the mid to late 1800s. The first mention in the newspaper archives is in 1873, It pushes itself considerably for its position and facilities, as can be seen from the article below. It was on the east side of Hamstead Hill, and I think was the red building on the 1913 map attached, The last mention in ht enewspaper archives is in 1895, and in Kellys in 1896, though there is mention in 1936 of a Browns Green School in 1936, though this is probably just a local education school named from the village'

That's interesting. That would mean the school was the same as the one labelled Hamstead Hill School and not the one I marked in red. On consideration I think that might well be correct. I was partly going from a sales advert for Parkview, which I took to be Park Hill (on the 1913 map, but advert was 1880s so thought possibly changed). This was claimed to be opposite the school
