Not quite sure where to post this but hope someone can help.
This is me being naughty as it is not a Birmingham query as my paternal family are from north staffs.
Mathew Brough b Cheddleton/Leek staffs in 1805 (census records differ slightly) I am lucky that not many Matthew Broughs have been born Staffs, so I have been able to trace him from birth to death, except a small gap.
I have researched my gt/gt/grandfather for many years now, he was a Master Tailor all his life but my research of his life had a big gap in it.I have just found records that from the age of 17 in 1822 to age 29 in 1834 he was in Canada in the 82nd regiment of foot.
The attestation record is lovely he was 17 a Tailor, 5ft 8ins, fair complexion, Hazel eyes,Dark hair ,round face.Fits the description of my late Dad exactly.
My question is what was the 82nd regiment of foot and why were they in Canada.
Thanks , Alberta.
