thanks lynne i think you have an interest in this pub.. also from memory lol i have a feeling that sylvia sayers ray may have owned the gents hairdressers next door..she will correct me if i am wrong...only a guess at the date...late 50s to middle 60s...

hi jean..yes i think you are right..somewhere in the back of my mind i seem to recall that sylvias ray and or patty have an interest in that shop..

Lyn, you are right the Barbers was Ray's first shop, opened about 1955/56. Patty worked for Ray some years later in the mid 70s I think, when he had a joint Ladies/Gents shop next to Sainsburys in the Newtown Shopping Centre. I have at long last found the photos of that shop and hope to get some prints this week to send to her, no doubt she will post them on the Forum eventually.

oh thank goodness for that sylv..i am so glad me memory is not fading that much lol...i do remember sainsburys but can not recall rays shop next to it...i do hope that patty can get those pics on the forum at some point...

thanks sylv...

Thanks for re-posting some of the photos Lyn, they do re-kindle so many memories - BTW the garage was owned by Norman Lock, who later opened Newtown Garages on the corner of New John Street and Summer Lane, when the area was re-developed, my son had a part time job with him for a couple of hours after school each evening.

its a pleasure sylv...i remember that garage on the corner of njsw and summer lane....i am still trying to find a pic of the bakery that used to be on that corner....there is someone i know whos dad ran it...
