There is still a Brtttainia pub on the Warwick Road, at the junction of Stockfield Road and Warwick Road, not sure if its the same one.

I had a few drinks in the 'old' Brit....
Always seemed more of a house converted to a pub, rather than a purpose built pub. After a drink or two or three.... I/we used to go over the road to the 'chippy'.... mmmm!!

Must be around 30yrs ago when it got knocked down & re-built.

hi Albion and Dwill

i will be going to my babers today down bordesley green and around to my daughters in dolphin lane so i will have a look up stocklands .to see if its still there

I used to go in here most lunchtimes when I worked down Redfern Road. Was a nice pub, always busy.

Been back a few of times in the last couple of years and it's been empty, and a bit rundown to be honest, don't know how they manage to stay open.

I worked at the Brit in 1988.Very popular pub at the time, while the others around it struggled.
The gaffers were Mary and Gerry from Donegall, they would have been there during the changeover to the new pub in 1974.They left about 1993.
I met Gerry once at the Horseshoes,Cov Rd in about 2000.
Can't say for nowadays, but the Brit of 20 years ago was a real regulars pub,and never any real trouble.

Believe the current landlady of The Great Western, by Acocks Green station, Bridgette Wayre, has some connection with The Britt, not sure if she was landlady or worked behind the bar. She must be in her 70's now but is still running the pub whilst it struggles to find a landlord. Some of you may remember her.

Had a quick nose there last week.Didn't go in,but drove past both the bar and lounge on a few occasions.
Never saw anybody in the lounge, and the bar was mostly empty, except thursday evening, there was a small crowd, but it looked rough.
Surprised myself it's still going, shame,it was a great pub in its day.

Spent many happy hours in this club, i was told it was in trouble. Len. Popular Birmingham club fights to halt sell-off threat

Oct 19 2009 by Edward Chadwick, Birmingham Mail
THE bosses of a sports and social club face a race against time to stave off a sale that would end more than 60 years of tradition.
Committee members at the Ivy Leaf Club in Sheldon have revealed their fight with brewing giant Carlsberg who put the building on the market to try to claw back a £200,000 debt.
They finally broke their silence to try to end months of rumours which have caused anger and upset among the 1,150 members.
The committee said they were speaking to a number of private investors to try to secure finance within weeks and pay off the debt before the club was sold.
“We have not put the club up for sale, that has been done by the creditor because they have called in the debt,” the committee said.
“We are taking advice from our solicitors and MPs.
“The committee is confident that finance can be sourced elsewhere. We understand the frustration of the members but everything that we have done has been in their interests and we will hold a meeting as soon as we are able to.”
The three-storey club on Coventry Road was once valued at £750,000 in a credit agreement but is currently advertised with offers being sought for more than £350,000.
Committee members said they were surprised that the debt was being called in because payments were being met.
The member-owned club opened in 1948 as a British Legion-run venue after the land was donated to a committee.
The legion no longer has a role in the club, but it remains a meeting place for ex-servicemen, as well as youth groups.
Yardley’s Liberal Democrat MP John Hemming said: “Their problem is finding the money quickly. If they cannot do it within six weeks they could find that the building is sold from underneath them.”
A spokesman for Carlsberg said: “We remain in discussions with the club and their representatives and will continue to look at all the options.”

My granddad used to spend alot of time (and money) at the Brit pub. My dad usually ended up telling my nan that he had been found lying in the gutter (drunk). He died in 1952 when my dad was just 10.

Hi All,

The pub is close to the corner with Fox Hollies Road, which is the route my Dad use to take on his way from Small Heath to work at Lucas in Shaftmore Lane.
He use to mention seeing cows being hearded up the road / lane. I don't know a date but it must have been somewhere between 1930-1960.
I guess there must have been a farm close by, but the houses generally seem to be built 1930's
Any ideas.

All I know is that there used to be a blacksmiths just up the road (opposite Stockfield Road) but thats through my dad. By the way, both my parents worked at Lucas, Shaftmoor Lane. My dad was on wages

Theres a book on Acocks Green - it covers Tyseley and Greet to a small degree. It has a photo of the old smithy and the Congregational Church (now Colliers) as well. There may well have been farms - there was one in Knights Road for what I've heard, but you're going back to early 19th century possibly. I think the book is called Images of Acocks Green - did have a copy but mislaid it somewhere.

Heres a picture of the Smithy, called Harris's. Can't tell you the date. You can just see the corner of Stockfield Rd on the left.
