My great great grandfather George Bragg was a wine merchant who started Bragg's Vaults (also known as the Shakespeare Tavern) under the Theatre Royal in Birmingham's New Street. George lived in the Birchfield area of Birmingham.
His son George Davey Bragg (who never married or had any children) took over when he, George senior, died in 1851. I found a wonderfully-detailed obituary of George Davey Bragg which I posted on a theatrical website:
https://www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/Birmingham/TheatreRoyalNewStreetBirmingham.htm
I don't know very much about George Bragg senior: he was probably born in around 1777 but I don't know where or to whom. He married Elizabeth daughter of Joseph Woodall, a grocer and brewer from Dudley.
My website includes George Bragg senior's will https://www.onefivenine.info/buttons.html (at the bottom of the page.) I will shortly be posting the will of George Davey Bragg who died in 1900.
Does anyone have a connection to George Bragg born 1777? I'd love to hear from you!
