Many of the Blundells ended up in Brum. (Mine did)They came from several families from Studley and Great Alne/ Sambourne (S Warwickshire) mainly, whom I think were related but as yet I have not yet been able to prove links between them. One branch managed to build Blundell Road in Yardley (I think). I've just been informed that they were one of the families imported by the Throckmortons from France in the late 16th C as needlemakers. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to any further info such as what part of France they came from?I think they kept their Catholicism all the way through.Any suggestions as to where I can find out more information would be extremely helpful.

Re: The Blundells-Needlemakers

I have a friend in Alcester (and is of French descent) who is writing a book about needlemaking so I have passed your enquiry on to him and will let you know what he has to say:)

Re: The Blundells-Needlemakers

When your friend has finished his book do let us know, I would very much like to read it!. My ancestors were very involved in making nedles in Redditch in the later half of 19c. Indeed I worked in the factory in Studley for 3 months between finishing college and starting my nursing training.

Oh and there were loads of Blundells in Studley in the 1960/70's.

Re: The Blundells-Needlemakers

I would be very interested in any information your friend has on the needlemaking industry as some of my husbands family made needles at the Alcester factory.:D

Re: The Blundells-Needlemakers

Have you visited or contacted the Forge Mill Needle Museum at Redditch? I don't know if they have archives for research purposes, but they do represent the history of needle making in the area, and Alcester, Great Alne, Studley and Sambourne are not that far away from there.
