Can anyone assist please, I am trying to find a source to look up schoolboys who went to the Bluecoat School in the late 1800s very early 1900s Does anyone know where these records may be kept & if so where I can apply for further info?
Many Thanks Paul
There is a reference to the records for the Blue Coat School at this site. Looks like they are to be located in the Birmingham Heritage Archives according to this site.
Should have mentioned that there is a Birmingham Gov.site with a contact for the Birmingham Archives.https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/archives On the Connecting history site mentioned there are lists of other items as well as the Blue Coat School.
Hello Paul, it might well be worth you making a trip to B'ham to look at these records for yourself...they make for the most interesting reading, also the medical books...my young relatives seemed to suffer with chilblains every winter. These are the actual documents in the archives so it feels like handling history when reading them.
Dear Skylark, Thanks for reply, I will visit & experience that feeling myself one day, I am making notes on all the stuff I would like to look at then hopefully, have a couple of days in Birmingham, many thanks,
Paul
Hello again Paul..I should just add that you will need a CARN card before you can access these items.....you might be able to get from your own local library/archives in Cardiff. If not, it is easy enough to obtain one in B'ham, you will just need proof of your residence etc. a bill with your address on & your driving licence or passport should be enough. The CARN card lasts for a number of years & is usable in many archives/libraries around the Country. You can email B'ham archives before your visit advising them of the items you wish to view & they will have them all ready for you on the day of your visit.
