(Blue) Anchor Inn Tavern Sheep Street Aston Street

Not sure of the earliest date for this tavern, but the 1857 advert suggests by then it was an old, established tavern. (Maybe it had a different name before that date ?). It did particularly good business in outdoor trade.

By the time Fred Lemon took over, he seems to have had various plans for the place. (Not sure what 'Change here for Tenby and Jersey' means. Could Fred have been running excursions to those places ?).

But in the late 1880s, there was a rapid succession of licence transfers:
1889 the licence was with J Bennett
1891 the licence was with B Robb
1892 the licence was with D Mountford
1893 the licence was with J H Nokes

I can't trace any references after this date. Did it continue as an inn/tavern ? Did it have a name change? Maybe it was demolished.

The pub was listed at 15 Sheep Street in the 1855 directory under James Crawford. , but at no 13 in the 1932 and 1933 Kellys. It was also listed at no 13 in 1831. By 1936 the pub had gone. the earliest mention in the papers is in 1820

It is no. 13 in all the directories I checked.
There seems to be an application in 1934 by Ansells to transfer the licence to a new pub called The Glebe

According to Midlands Pubs site Ansells owned the Anchor from 1915.
