Birmingham University

North Gate in the sunshine near Pritchatts Road from the Green Heart.

Dame Barbara Hepworth's Ancestor 1 now has the Green Heart as a backing instead of the old library!

[Expand to see Ell's photo of Ancestor 1]

Barbara Hepworth's 'Ancestor 1' was a feature of the campus for 50 years. But it was always on loan and is no longer there. There are a couple of versions and a casting of this sculpture can be seen in Yorkshire Sculpture Park as part of a group of 9 'Family of Man.'

There are some new sculptures on campus. Father Sky/Uranus is in bronze 2 metres tall. It changes appearance as you walk around it.

Loving all these B’ham Uni pics and updates thanks. I went to KEHS in 1969 so used to get the bus to Dawlish Rd ( from Kings Heath) then walk 20 mins to school, cutting through the big Uni gate on the Bristol Rd. I have a commemorative medal from the 1909 opening with the King and Queen on it. It was handed down from my Grandpa, who was taken to watch the ceremony (aged 11). And looking at 1901 Census info, I discovered he and his 7 siblings lived on Dawlish Road!!
