Birmingham Town Hall

Sorry I dont have photos, only memories.
As an apprentice electrician for Birmingham Council, I worked in the Town Hall for a brief period. That opened the door to operating the spotlights for many many acts, between 1969 and about 1974 I think, the list is way too long and would probably bore you all. After that I took tickets on the door.
One night Robert Plant came in, he hadn't got a ticket. The manager was in the foyer observing. So, i had to stop him coming in. He uttered the immortal words, "dont you know who I am, I'm with the band". He wasnt because it was Delaney and Bonnie that night, and Mr Plant was a hero of mine. Anyroadup, I had to send him outside to "A" Door (for artists), and it was raining. He was not happy, and he wasnt my hero anymore.

Always be nice to people, especially those not as fortunate as yourself......you get wet hair then:)

I remember Wednesday dinner times, George Thorden Ball(I think thats right) would give a free organ recital. Lots of interest in the winter for the poor people who lived rough. It was nice and warm in there.
:)
Was it on this night (4/12/69) that you got Robert wet boilerman? ;)

Not obvious where to post this, but does anyone remember the Shadows (not with Cliff) performing at Birmingham town hall? I think it was 1961 and that Christine Perfect was one of the other performers.

If you do a search see top right (magnifying glass), there are several previous threads where Town Hall Concerts were discussed Peter. These include "Birmingham Town Hall"(more than one), Groups we have seen live" and "Concerts at Birmingham Town Hall", I'm sure that is among the many Town Hall concerts that were mentioned, hope that helps.

A bit early for Christine I think, she'd still be at Moseley college - She was with Stan Webb by '63 though, pre Chicken Shack and Stan loved Hank Marvin.

I think it was intended for Queen Victoria's visit. I posted details of the layout of the TH, possibly on this thread. Shall have a look.

I've just merged two threads about the Town Hall into this one, so there may be earlier unseen posts

When I get time I shall try and replace the late Phil's missing photos earlier in this thread. Meanwhile, if anyone has any of the missing photos easily to hand, just post them here and I will insert them into the posts. Thanks. Pity they're missing as this is an interesting thread.

Great find John, I think it must have been later, because the tickets changed from that one, but George was there, (unless he always was)
Out of curiosity is the person climbing through the window in post 193597 a man in a skirt or a woman with a beard?

NoddKD,The curious.
