Birmingham Skyline

I think that building 2 is in fact three blocks of flats in Metchley Lane, Harborne. It is opposite to the playing fields. See Picture.

I thought of these but they are very close to the Q.E. but then again camera angles can be very deceiving Dek

I think number 2 is the block of flats that is by Bartley Green reservoir, see attached pic. It is a pic taken pre digital days so lacks some clarity. The pic was taken from the layby opposite Frankley Beeches trees.

I'm off for a walk on street view to look for these flats
Polly

Dont walk too far on Google pollypops it looks like there is only one block remaining and that is the one on its own. Looking at street view the other four show just wasteland grassed over and in places fenced off from the public. That photo was taken in Sept 2006 on film.

So thats why I can't find them. Number 2 is proving difficult :confused2: I do have one solution - I could crop the photo! :D
Polly

Polly i,ve had me thinking cap on, studied the photo some more got a new theory, half way between 1--2 is a white building this i believe is Trigate House the flats No2 are as Mike said in Bartley Green .The two mast would not be Mere Green as it would be in the wrong direction, from memory there are two mast at Rowley Regis on top of the highest hill. I believe i can see the outline of a mast to the right of the B.T.Tower this would be the right Direction for Mere Green its very faint but it is 20 miles away. Thats put a spanner in the works. Dek

Here are the other four blocks of flats ( see attachment ) by the reservoir they were still there in April 2007 but street views just show wasteland as I said in other post. Dek the mast at Rowley I think has a sort of sphere on it.The two masts on the pic of pollys would be I guess Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield, there are actually three masts but on is only a small one.

Right Mike then the building must be in Metchley Lane the 2 mast are at hints and the other 2 mast by the B.T.Tower are Mere Green.Dek

If you take a look at another one of Pollypops pictures in a different post that has not been croped so much then you get a better perspective of direction, I have cropped and labeled a snip of this below, I think you can just see the spire if St. Augtines church just off to the left, near to the Hagley Road in Edgbaston. The two masts I think are Lichfield & Sutton Coldfield television transmitters. I don't think the zoom in on this photo is helping a lot, but I am fairly sure the buildings marked 2 are the flats in Metchley Lane, however I may be wrong.

I think that Dave could be right about Methcley Lane. Looking at the aeriel view, there are three smaller blocks (using Street view I could count 10 floors) and the larger block is Kendal Tower in Malins Road (15 floors)

Would you think that all the four flats in Metchley Lane have been compressed with the zoom lens to what looks like two blocks. In this attachment there are definitely four.

Seems like my earlier pic of Bartley Green muddied the waters a little,no pun intended :):)

Yes Mike i think the angle of the phpto has made the 3 smaller blocks look like one building and the larger one stands on it,s own. Dek PS your attachment wont open

So number 2 is Kendal Tower in Malins Road B15 with three more in front of it which are in Brantock Way
Coniston House
Derwent House
and I can't see the name on the other one, there are trees in the way!
If this is right, you are all amazing - I didn't think the Zoom would affect where we thought the buildings were.
Polly :)

Thanks Mike looks like that ones sorted (logic tell me its got to be that one it wouldn,t disappear from the photo and its the next high blocks along from the QE). i,m still musing on two other 8__9 i know Tricorn house is one of these and i think it is No8 not 9 as stated before i think No9 is located on five ways island but don,t know it,s name. Also no12 has not been named it should be quite easily compared with some of the others it looks as its just in front of the Uni in Selly Oak.Dek

I'm around Kings Norton, Bournville, Wythall aresa this afternoon so I will go armed with camera and see if I can spot number 12 but with the zoom lens distortion it may not be in front of the Uni. The nearest High rise flats apart from Metchley Lane would probably be Wickets and Century Towers in Priory Road/Pershore Road.

I think that Mike is right - 12 is Wickets and Century Towers. If you look at Strretview, they are effectively end on to the road. If you zoom in on the photo, you can just about see that 2 is two buildings

Yes leslam i also think it,s two blocks i am not so sure on this side of town i,m relying on people with more knowledge than i. Dek

I'm in Edgbaston, so it's just down the road from me! I would be well and truly stumped if we were looking at a view from Barr Beacon!

Well Dek I am not a million miles from you but I am a Bournville lad born and bred and lived there until I was transported to the north side 30 years ago. There are more flats situated between Bristol and Pershore Roads between Priory Rd and Belgrave Middleway. If you look to the right of the Uni clock tower you can see the dome on the mosque in Hihgate, just shows how a zoom lens can distort the image.

Mike i know where you are now and i know the flats you mean, your right the zoom lens seems to put it all out of perspective. Dek

Mike not to sure of 8---9 i think No8 is Tricon house on five ways island No 9 looks close by but then again there may be some distance between them. Dek
