Birmingham panoramic

Thanks Viv, looks brilliant on an iPad, I can read the time on the Soho Road Library clock, now looking for Barr Beacon.

Don't know how well it works on a PC/laptop but, yes Phil, smashing resource for iPad users. Was very chuffed this afternoon to have spotted Dudley Castle, took me back over half a century (arggghhh) to junior school trips! It's the sort of thing you can spend a happy hour zooming in - or maybe I should just get a life! Viv.

I'm amazed at the amount of 'clutter' on tops of buildings, quite a lot of seagulls perched here and there, I never used to see them in the centre of Brum !

Yes, lots of stuff up there above ground level. Alpha Tower (left of Library of B'ham) looks like it's preparing for the latest NASA mission. Why on earth do they need all that kit up there? Viv.

A great panorama to be sure. I did spot, amidst all the newer structures, some I remember particularly in the city centre.
There was much that I do not recognise but apart from Dudley Castle, which I did search for and found. I believe I spotted Spring Hill library clock tower.
Regarding the gulls: you are lucky they are high up and so are their offspring. There are frequent reports of people and pets being attacked by gulls who are protecting their chicks in Devon and Cornwall.

I've spotted some people working in an office in a building named Norfolk on Smallbrook Ringway. Little patios with pot plants, chairs and bushes on top of some buildings, it's another world up there !
Also an aircraft or helicopter or drone in the sky above the library .... and a hot air balloon towards the left of the pic.

Fantastic - this is like Hitchcock's 'Rear Window'. Above Smallbrook Queensway there's a man in an office, making the tea.

I've taken a photo of this many times but I won't get better then this off the panoramic view

I wondered how it was done !
The photograph is an 80 megapixel image made up of four rows of 33 separately-taken shots, meticulously stitched together to create a unique photograph stretching across Birmingham’s evolving cityscape. Iconic landmarks including Edgbaston Cricket Ground, the new Library of Birmingham, the BT Tower and the new John Lewis shop at Grand Central can be seen, as well as a hot air balloon some fifteen miles away.

Well I'd not have believed it was 'stitched' together. Such great quality. Finding surprising things too, like the new structure on top of the Grand Hotel. Looking good. Now wondering if there's a similar one at the other end, but buildings obscure the view at the other end. Viv.

Yes, that's him - and I've spotted Frothblower's mysterious figure in bed at the Premier Inn. Can't yet find the hot-air balloon, but could the UFO above the new library be a goose? Does the fact that it's a composite image explain why one clock says 7.00 and another 2.35?
If you find something called 'Ocean Drago' next to the Ibis Hotel and then go vertical to above the horizon and then max zoom you should see the hot air balloon.

I was thinking of staying at the Premier Inn on my next trip up to Brum. Don't want you lot peering thru my bedroom window! I guess it would be pretty boring anyway!

I right clicked on the photo (wasn't trying to save it) and a little box appeared naming the company which does these super high res panoramas, clicked on them and could have a view of London and other places. I saw however an offered view of the Chatsworth Estate which I've visited in Derbyshire many times but when I looked had a bit of a shock, it was not what I expected ...

See what you mean Mo

I was a bit mystified at first, (as I've only ever seen mention of Shameless in program listings), but worked it out in the end

Had to smile at this. Gulls using the roof ladder to get back to the top after taking it in turns to slide down the roof tiles 'Wheeeeeee!'. Spotted a lot of them on the panoramic photo. I know gulls are now regarded by some as a 'pest' around the Jewellery Quarter these days, but believe there's been a reprieve over culling them. Personally I'd be happy hearing gulls soaring above, reminds me of sounds of the seaside. But I guess you have to put up with the mess too. Viv.
