The announced closure of the Museum and Art Gallery after Sunday November 13th will again result in another period where this iconic establishment will not be available for the public. The talk of reopening in 2024 must be a matter of concern. What are the intentions of those planning the reconstruction and are there plans to re-invent Birmingham History- in fact creating a fake picture of our past !

There are some facts on the museum website about the closure and what's expected.

Visited last Friday. Deeply disappointed. The cafe and shop were open and seemed to be doing good business. The Round Room is open with Epstein's Lucifer as the centre piece and a small selection of old and modern art but only a fraction of the old museum and gallery were open unless you paid £15 to get into the Rembrandt exhibition in the Gas Hall. No pre-Raphaelite paintings, No Staffordshire hoard. I suppose someone who had never visited the full museum when it was open might be impressed, but anyone who remembers it as it was will be disappointed. Hopefully the rest will be open again soon.

I thought he same too, absolutely underwhelming. Its has the look of a place that’s got no identity or theme, so a committee chucked a whole load of ideas in the melting pot and tried to incorporate all of them, badly. Its still a museum that wants to tell you what they think you should know.

Where have I seen all this before.......not mentioning any millenium poi.......sorry places........
Go to the collections centre instead - they actually have things to see there like.......exhibits......... rather than endless open spaces and snazzy signs which seem to be way museums are designed these days so as not to delay you into the shop and the caf..... tea rooms!
