Birmingham Market Police had
full arrest powers between 1883 and 1976.
Constables of the Birmingham Market Police were attested under Section 104 of the Birmingham Corporation (Consolidation) Act 1883. This act granted them the same powers and privileges as regular borough constables, which included the power of arrest.
Their police powers were explicitly linked to this Act and were lost when the Act was repealed in 1976. After 1976, the force continued in a reduced capacity (renamed market enforcement officers in 2016), but the officers were no longer sworn constables and did not possess police powers of arrest
