Birmingham Hippodrome

Here is a view looking outside from the Birmingham Hippodrome during the extension of the stage in 1981. A big task, as the extension was into an area 16 feet below the level of the original stage. But, as it was in a busy city area I do not think any moles were disturbed.

Good photograph. Reminds me of when my father used to take me to the Hippodrome during the 1940's early 50's. We always sat in the Circle, I did not care for the "boxes". I did not realise at the time, that they cost more money, it was just that I did not like them.

Same view (?) in 2025. At this time, there was talk of it being renamed the Hammond Theatre (named after Alison Hammond). Did that happen ?Screenshot_20260901_193141_Chrome.jpg
