Birmingham Fire Station to be sold

GeorgieG

master brummie
Have you seen todays (2nd November) Birmingham Mail.. Birmingham Fire Station is being sold for £10m and transformed into a residential tower...

At least their not pulling it down....! :great:
I love that building, my Godmother's husband was Fire Chief there in the 1950's and 60's.

Yes I am glad its going to be preserved. Aston University wanted it but were outbid.

Michael told me a nice little story. When he was a bus driver in the 60's his bus broke down right outside ther fire station on Lancaster Circus. As most of you will know you just can't do this outside a fire station. They couldn't wait for the tow truck so all the firemen came out and pushed his bus out of the way............where's your camera when you need one.

I had a puncture outside, before I could get the jack under the car four firemen came out, lifted the car and said change it quick .

Lovley stories:)

I too am glad that the building is safe, there would have been a loud protest had they even thought of knocking it down.

Lovely building we went on a school visit there from Cowper St and the Red gravel outside always fascinated me.:)

Di is your clock right you are an hour in front of me:)

It's 2 hours ahead of the right time, not sure how to change it.???

I have just seen a note at the bottom of the page saying all times are GMT + 2 and I am in line with that.

Di go to your UserCP on the blue band at the top of the page and click, then to: Settings & Options on the Control Panel and choose Edit options you can then alter the clock to your own time zone. :great:

Hi guys n gals

Only the 'clock tower' and 'bay doors' all the rest is going!!

There's a preservation society (has been for some years) but these volunteers are desperately trying to collate as much stuff as possible.

They've been given an arch way near the new 'East Side Safe Side' to house items.

The HQ was built in the 1930's using latest technology concrete (if that's ever possible) but there are many fascinating parts, so I'm avidly told but my husband.

Why do we keep having to loose such historical buildings, I know progress, but some of these are iconic.
