Birmingham Christmas Quiz.

In 1942 whilst in Birmingham his son, Christopher. contracted measles. This was the catalyst for his books as he wrote a story for the boy entitled 'Edward's Day Out'. It was re-written, illustrated and read often. His wife, Margaret persuaded Wilbert to publish the book. Eventually it was and as they say ' the rest is history'.

That's the bit of information I wanted that the Thomas the Tank books were actually written in Birmingham,

Janice,

Sorry about that, but my eyes are not that clever now, just finish the question off and I will make sure I attribute it to you this time.

The second photo is 9 Stanley Road where Anthony Pratt lived when he invented the game of Cluedo. There is a blue plaque to that effect outside the front door.

Janice I was looking more for that it was the house where he was living when he died, therefore the photos showed where he lived and died, but it's close enough.

Right we only need to answer question 4 now and that's the lot. I will be able to publish the results.

Thanks Phil - I was confused about the house as when I looked him up it suggested he died in a nursing home in Bromgrove. The I found him on the eroll in Stanley Road.

Janice

Not many of us are born and die in our homes do we? Where we were living when the event occurs is usually given as the address. Mid you I suppose Mr Pratt might have been born at 13 Brighton Road as most babies were born at home before the advent of the NHS.

That's interesting, I never knew that.
I also didn't know St Chads and the Houses of Parliament were designed by the same architect.
We learn something new from BHF all the time!

It crossed my mind that No.4 might be Beryl Reid. A Scot, brought up in Manchester, but who could mimic the Brummie accent expertly.

The photo is of Stephanie Cole - I think she was born in Solihull. She played Dr Mason in Tenko. The she was Diana Trent in waiting For God.

Neither would I without Phil's clues and a search for "Dr Mason and Miss Trent" - that was desperation as individually they gave nothing.

Well Done, that's all 10 questions answered I'll do a rundown tomorrow of who answered what.

i knew the face but just couldnt place her phil...if you had said diana trent i would have got it...wouldnt mind but over the past week ive been watching open all hours every night on you tube:rolleyes:well done jan

Please tell me if you thought this quiz too hard, it always difficult to judge what is hard and what is easy so advice is always welcome.

thanks phil ..personally i think it was fine...i always say its only easy if we know the answers...if we dont we can have fun trying to find them and learn if we dont if that makes sense:D

for me i have learnt 10 things:rolleyes::)

I don't think it was too hard - made you think which I enjoy - although I was glad of the hints helping towards the end. As Lyn says - I learned some things.

I thought it was a very good quiz, personally I only knew the Carl Wayne picture but no point in making it too easy!
As I mentioned before, it was interesting and I've learned some new things, thanks.

Phil,

I agree with Lyn & Janice. I left Brum almost 58 years ago and when I left, there were many areas of the City that I didn't know at all. Plus I am an old geezer and if I manage to score half a point, I'm very happy! Thanks for taking the time to organise them.

Maurice :-)
