It looks like Worcester are going to suffer the same fate (Note that some records for Kings norton and West Bromwich are stored there :

Proposed cut to funding for The Hive Archive, Worcester

The Friends of the Hive; the joint Worcester University and Community Library are very concerned about a plan by the Worcestershire County Council to cut the funding for the Hive Archive (previously the Worcester County Records’ Office Archive) by £405,000. This represents in excess of a 50% cut in funding. The implications of this cut are drastic. This Archive provides access to material about the history of Worcestershire that is used by local and family historians, genealogists and researchers from the West Midland’s Universities. It is particularly important to the University of Worcester. Over the past forty or so years this university has developed research activity at under-graduate, post-graduate and post- doctoral research levels. It has achieved over 200 PhD referrals. They are greatly concerned that this exemplary research record will be jeopardized by the cuts the County Council intend to make. Records’ Offices, which the Hive still is, have existed for over a century (the first was established in 1913) and successive Legislation has conferred on these organizations Statutory Responsibilities that make the downgrading of the Archive and Archaeology Services at the Hive impossible. They know that the Records’ Office/Hive Archive has been well used over the past forty plus years and they ask that people who use the services available at the Hive sign a petition which is intended to demonstrate to the County Council that a large number of people in Worcestershire care about their heritage. The Archive also contains material relating to places that in the past were part of the County of Worcestershire; Dudley, King’s Norton, Shipston-on-Stour and West Bromwich for instance. They would welcome support from these places that used to be part of Worcestershire.

To sign the petition go to the following URL: https:/www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-the-worcester-hive-archive

They would also like to receive letters of support. Please address these to:

Dr. Frank Crompton.

The George Marshall Medical Museum,

The Charles Hastings Education Centre,

Charles Hastings Way,

As many of us know, the Library of Birmingham has important photography collections. There's an article in the Dispatch which might give publicity to the need to catalogue and digitise the collection to make it more widely available.https://www.birminghamdispatch.co.uk/p/the-library-of-birmingham-hosts-a
It’s seems there is SO much waste in government and that technology has reduced the cost of digitization, still we will not realize what we have missed until it’s gone! It seems That governments waste t8me and money hav8ng meetings about meetings. Why don’t we start with governments taking a 10 or 15% pay cut and putting that money to good use.
Tha5 would get the “talking heads” attention!

good idea richard then maybe they could employ more staff so that the archives dept is open every saturday instead of the one sat in a month it is now (closed on sundays). its ok for me as i can go on any of the 3 days in the week (excluding every 4th sat) they are open but i feel sorry for those people who work mon to friday who are very limited to when they can visit

One vote for the Archives Staff here. Recently emailed to ask about copyright and permission to use a picture, that google seemed to credit to them, on the cover of my forthcoming genealogy/crime novel, set in Birmingham. They answered very promptly and were happy to use the picture free with the appropriate credit....unlike the Mail who wanted £50+vat in response to a similar enquiry on another picture!

I think that is SO small of the Mail! It will cost all of the £50 to process the check for payment! That is the mentality !

It’s Saturday evening and I am watching “Time Team”, earlier I was watching C Span two non commercial channels provided to watch discussion in congress! OMG, I was so disgusted, 30 mins was about all I could handle. I have watched some discussion in the House of Commons, it’s the same stuff, they all like the sound of their own voice with no attempt to get anything done! I’m not sure what to do but this is not working from either side of the aisle!

Yes, I am binge watching Time Team :) !
