Is there anybody out there looking for Benton or Burridge?

Love and kisses
Craig Benton, part of (Ze German Bentons') apart from me:)

Benton; Craigingermany

Have an Emma Benton who married James Sheldon Feb 2nd 1857. She was the daughter of William Benton (Lamp maker) and Amelia who married March 27th 1831 in Aston Peter Paul. Have the Sheldon lines coming forward. Nothing going further back.

Bentons

I have a John Edward Benton in my tree, married to my Great Aunt, Amelia Bassett. John was born Ca1873, Amelia 1875 in Aston
John and Amelia had the following children;
Ann born 1892
Amelia born 1892
John Thomas born 1898
Albert born after 1901
Millicent, as previous
Ernest, as previous.
John and Amelia lived the near the City centre.
Any links to yours?

Sorry can't offer any confirmation.

Emma Benton had six children Walter James 1856, Rosina 1858, William Benjamin 1861, Harry Alfred 1863?, Frederick 1864 and Ada Ann 1870 but of course they are Sheldons. Interestingly no Amelia.

Emma was married from St Lukes Road whilst her husband was married from the family home in Dartmouth Street (For most of his life a Chaser). Emma probably re married after the death of her husband in 1888 (They ran the Royal George in Bradford Street) but we are having trouble pinning down the re marriage. (See mystery of the Royal George on Forum)

Emma's parents would have been born circa or prior to 1810. We have not found any other children born to them so if we have a connection it may be through any brothers of her father William (Lamp Maker). Again the trail goes cold as we hav'nt tracked the earlier Bentons down.

Hi Robert, Dave,

Unfortunately, not that far yet. I need to dig deeper into the parents of my G/grandad Robert Benton, then find his siblings; when I have this information I can branch out. I know that he was born in around 1850, so need firstly to obtain his Birth cert' to expand.

Cheers
Craig

To craigingermany and Benton seekers

Hello Folks

Managed to do a bit more on a Benton branch. Can anyone help out with more detail?

We have a William Benton b circa 1816 married to an Ann b circa 1816. (Not Amelia as previously thought) William appears to have been born out of County. One possible marriage unless someone can tell me differently!
WILLIAM BENTON to ANN PRIEST

Lombard Street 1841 census
William Benton Lamp Maker 25 (Estimated Birth Year: 1816)
Aston Hundred: Birmingham Sub-registration district: Deritend and Bordesley . Amelia Benton 3, Ann Benton 25, Emma Benton 5, William Benton 25, William Benton 2 .

The couple went onto have a possible 9 children we can find.
Ann, Emma, Amelia, William, Alfred, Joseph, Henry, Ellen and Edwin.

Can't find much on the 1851 and beyond except for the below. (I can't be first person to have fallen down this hole.) We are wondering if the family was struck down with cholera in the 1850s.

The only child from above we know about is Emma who married James Sheldon 2 Feb 1857 at St Philips. James and Emma had William James, Rosina, William Benjamin, Frederick, Harry Alfred and Ada Ann. We know quite alot about James and Emma and some of their children.

thanks

Bentons

Hi Robert,

My line differs. I have William Benton from approx' 1811. He married Sarah (?). One of their 10 or so children was Robert Benton born approx' 1848 my Great Great Grandfather. He married Elizabeth, who had Arthur Benton who married Florence Georgina who then had my Dad Ronald Benton, and here am I :)
There is a guy in Ireland who can supply Census details, I have used him and can state that he is reliable and inexpensive. His email is as follows:

Hello Craigingermany

There seem to be about 4 or 5 Benton familys 1840/50 in Birmingham. Your line looks different to mine but I bet there are some links somewhere.

Thanks for the reply and the contact.
