In need of some help looking for records of a Sidney Bennett.

He married an Alice Woodcock (age 21) on 11th April 1936 at St Johns, Perry Barr.

in 1936, Age 24, he lived at 4 Raymond Av, Perry Barr and occupation on the marriage certificate is down as Electric Car Driver.

There was talk of him being in the Royal Artillery but we can't find any details before this 1936 marraige certificate or after.

He had a son with Alice in April 1937. His name is Alan S Bennett (now aged 72) he is still alive and interested in his fathers history as Sidney left home when Alan was 6.

The Fathers names on the Marriage cert is William Bennett and Samuel Woodcock.

There is a very small chance he is still alive but unlikely as he would now be appox 97 years old.

Thanks in advance for any pointers
Phil

Re: Sidney Bennett

Hi phil

Had a quick look at this, have found this birth --

Sidney Bennett 2nd qtr 1912 Aston 6d 539. Mothers maiden name : Mackenzie

The best i could do for his parents marriage is this one --

William Bennett/ Elizabeth Mackenzie 2nd qtr 1892 Islington 1b 405

Could do with someone with access to Electoral Roll to look up the years before and after 1936

Re: Sidney Bennett

Hi there,i've had a look at electoral rolls 1935-1950,and the first mention of number 4 Raymond Ave is in 1945.
As Bren said, there is,at the moment, only the one match marriage wise for a William Bennett to a Mackenzie (mother's maiden name on Birth cert)There are quite a few William and Elizabeth Bennetts in the 1911,a few who have been married 19 years,as well, but the youngest child on the census is 15/16 and it seems a rather large gap to then go and have another in 1912 (Sydney),though not unheard of!!
Does the marriage cert mention any occupation for Sydney or his father,William?

Re: Sidney Bennett

I reckon maybe Raymond Avenue wasn't included in birmingham if it isn't listed in the electoral rolls before 1945. It is listed in Kellys . In the 1932 and 33 versions no 4 is not included , but the avenue is stated to have a postal address as Hamstead. In 1936 and 1937 the occupant of no 4 is listed as Harry Eccleston (then postal address great barr), but then only one name is given for each property.

Re: Sidney Bennett

Hiya, The Mackenzie you speak of was my great grandmother Caroline Elizabeth Mackenzie she married John Bennett on 2nd October 1901, she had 3 children Hilda (my nan) who was born in Manchester then John and Sidney both born in Aston, Birmingham. My dad has a photograph of his uncle Sidney but he remembers his wife as being called Kate (Catherine)???. Sidney was killed during the war.
