lynne webb

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
I've got a Bernard Bellamy b. Dec 1910.
I've found him on the 1911 Census but thats where the problem starts, this is what I've found.
133 Milner Road, Selly Park.
Mr T Bellamy b.1844
Mrs T Bellamy 1846
A Bellamy, b 1873, son.
Mar Bellamy b.1876. daughter.
Gertrude Bellamy b1883, daughter
Bernard Bellamy aged 4 months, son.
I wouldnt think that Bernard was Mrs Ts son. I cant find any births even for Gertrude, and nothing on any other Census, Has anyone any idea how i can find the names of these people please, I would be really grateful. Thanks, Lynne.

Hi - I have found Thomas Bellamy on 1912 Electoral roll living at 133 Milner Road, unfortunately he moves after that and I can't say for certain where to.

there was a big family of sibbling living in long acre nechells in the fftys and sixtys

they lived in a small terrace house up a terrace on long acre they was a big family i cannot recall there names thou ; i did know one or two of them but for the love nor money i just cannot recal any names astonian

Lynne, does your entry give further details birthplaces occupations?
My thought is that the father? Thomas may have married a lady with children and they have automatically taken his name.
Incidently there is a marriage in Kings norton 1913 between a Gertrude Bellamy and Bernard Hurst, Bernard jnr father perhaps.

Bewdley, thanks for that, it seems to confirm the name is Thomas, so thats a start. Astonian, I will keep that in mind when get more info thanks. Alberta, this is the info on the 1911.
Mr T, b. Hey Hill Brum [Key Hill maybe] House Painter for the Corporation.
Mrs T born Fleet St, Brum.
'A' b Heaton St. Bricklayer.
Mar [could be May] b Devonshire St, working at Elkingtons.
Gertrude b. Monmouth St. working in Laundry.
Bernard b. Westminster Road.
I did see that marriage, I'm going to look into that.
Thanks to all of you for your help.
Lynne.

Lyn - have you found the birth of Bernard Bellamy or have you calculated his birth year from the census? I was just wondering if you have found him being born a Bellamy.

Hello Polly, This man is the father of my sister in law, I took his birth from the death records, hope that makes sense, I knew when he died so his date of birth was there.

Lynne

There's a birth for a Bernard Bellamy registered JFM 1911 Kings Norton ref 6c 344

According to electoral rolls there is a Westminster Rd in 1912 (where it is stated he was born) in Handsworth Ward.

Suzanne

Suzanne, there is a Westminster Road still in Handsworth, not sure if this is the same one. I dont think I've ever been stumped so early in any other family, but these are proving so difficult. Thanks for your help.
Lynne.

Lynne

I forgot to say that in 1912 at 133 Milner Road is a Thomas Bellamy but after that there isn't any Bellamy's at the address..

Suzanne

Oops!!! You already have this:)

Lynn, please bear with me whilst I try to unravel the story of Thomas Bellamy as I understand it.
I have found Thomas born 1850 living at 2nd Yard, Hills Buildings Kaye Hill, Birmingham with his parents Joseph born 1826 Birmingham, Gun Barrel Roller and Sarah born 1831 Nottinghamshire, Percussion Cap Maker.
In 1861 he is living at 46 Key Hill, Birmingham with father Joseph 1825 Gun Barrel Roller Birmingham, mother Sarah, 1832 Nottingham, on this census it says he was born in 1849, sister Ann 1852, brothers John 1856, Henry 1858 and George 1861 all siblings were born in Birmingham
There is a marriage between Thomas Bellamy and Rebecca Horley West Bromwich 6b 1042 December quarter 1870.
On the 1871 census Thomas and Rebecca are living at back of Key Hill Birmingham, both born 1850 Birmingham.
In 1881 Thomas, Lamp Lighter and Rebecca are living at 2, Fraces Pl, Crab Tree Rd, Birmingham with children Thomas 1873, Alfred 1875 both scholars and Joseph 1880 all born Birmingham.
1891 Thomas’ occupation has changed to Jeweller, he is living with Rebecca at 14 Phillips Place Birmingham with children Thomas 1872 Soldier, Ellen Edith 1874, Joseph 1879, Emily 1881, Henry John 1886, May 1889, all born Birmingham.
1901 Thos’ occupation is now Public Lamp Painter born 1851, living with wife Rebecca Brass Polisher 1851 at 53, Markby Road, Birmingham with children Emily 1882 Nickel Plater, Joseph 1879, May 1890, and Gertrude 1893 all born Birmingham.
The 1911 census was signed by Mrs Bellamy and I think she probably completed her name, as was done in those days, by taking the initial of her husband when she stated she was Mrs T Bellamy when really she should have written Rebecca. The ages are also very confusing, but checking where the names appear between censuses I think it can be assumed that the ages are incorrect on the 1911 census. She stated that they had had 9 children, 6 living, 3 deceased.
To my reckoning their children were Thomas 1873, Ellen Edith 1874, Alfred 1875, Joseph 1879, Emily 1882, Henry John 1886, May 1889, Gertrude (June 1894 6c 396 Kings Norton) and probably another one between censuses. I don’t think she would have counted baby Bernard as her own given her age!
There is a Harry (possibly Henry John born 1886) Bellamy living at 101 Westminster Road, Selly Oak Ward on the 1912/13 Electoral Roll, ? where baby Bernard was born, and there is a Bernard Bellamy birth registered March 1911 Kings Norton 6c 344, could his father be Harry?
I have also found Harry Bellamy born 1887 (bricklayer learner) on the 1901 census boarding with the Faulkner family at 59 Rowe Heath Road, Kings Norton, Cotteridge, Worcestershire.
Hope this makes some sense to you. bewdley

There was a Bellamy family living next to our coalyard in Gladstone Street Aston. Try the Aston Church records now held in Birmingham I think. Regards, David.

Oh my goodness, this is brilliant. It does all seem to fit from the info on the 1911. There is so much there, I cant believe you found it all, it will take some time but I will note it all down. I am flabbergasted, thank you doesn't seem enough but I am so grateful. Thank you so so much.
Lynne.
