In December 1937 houses were demolished and land was being cleared on Islington Row for the building of a new regional BBC centre.

By March 1939 the buildings hadn't yet appeared and there seems to be some doubt about any plans. (Was wondering if this was due to the possibility of war looming).

Was this ever built ? Personally I don't remember it, although I do remember Pebble Mill built in the 1960s. Viv.

I do know that BBC local evening news was still being transmitted from Broad St in 1963. My 15 minuets of fame!

The BBC studios were on Islington Row situated between George Road and Enfield Road from 1948 until the mid 1950's across the road from the Bath Street junction.

Number 2 studio. I expect this was at the BBC premises on Islington Row. Very 1950s decor.

Think area shown is the land between frederick road at the top (arched entrance still there) and George road at the bottom (where five ways house was built)
