Barton's Arms High Street Aston

My dad Malcolm Stevens (he is 81 years old now) used to be a singer & compared what they called the 'Free & Easy' nights back in the day (more commonly known as 'Open Mic' nights these days) probably 35-40 years ago? I vaguely remember one occasion when Sally James (TISWAS) Sue Pollard (Hi-de-Hi) and David Soul (Starsky & Hutch) were there? I'm not sure if they were possibly filming TV show? Can anybody else remember this or even better remember my dad the singer/compare? He sang in pubs/clubs all over Birmingham for probably 30+ years with various bands.
Hello Villan I remember that Friday night they were filming an outside broadcast for the telly some sort of a live link from pub to studio , I'll never forget one woman of senior years locals new her as Lipstick Lil . Well anyway they were asking for dedications Lo and Behold David Soul gets up and on the PA announces that the next piece of music is for Lipstick Lil she scowled sligtly but the room was in hysterics . I shook hands with David Soul where you might ask , of all places the gents haha my claim to fame . I don't recall your fathers name but I'm sure I'd know him by sight

i have to speak as i find and i think the rising costs reason for closure yet again is rubbish...since the 1970s the bartons has been struggling..sadly (and this is not political) the vast community that now live in the area are of none drinking faith coupled with the on going troubles in the area has once again forced it to close...

if only we could pick the pub up and place it in the city centre i have no doubt at all that it would thrive...its a little gem that we are now in danger of losing for good...so very sad

Given it was kept busy during the football season and takings must have been high on match days, it seems a strange time to close it, given the first game of the season was today. Surely someone will take it on? Or has an offer of some sort already been made to prompt the closure? I also hope the police keep their eyes peeled for potential arsonists, who target such pubs and too often get away Scott free..

Another one of The Bartons in 1967 when the underpass was being built for access to the shopping centre.
I raced under that underpass to get to the Paddock which was sited just where the pictire was taken
