I am looking for information on the Barber family from 1791. Robert Barber was born in approx 1791 in Lancashire but can't find any reference of him apart from on the 1841 census when he was 50. His son Charles moved to Birmingham and his son also Charles was born in 1861 in Birmingham. Robert seem to disappear. Any suggestions?
Sheila

Hello Sheila, I'm not sure where you found Robert's birth, the 1841 census for Heaton Norris, Stockport Lancs. says he and his children were not born in that county, but on the 1861 census Charles gives his birthplace as Stockport, he is a hair dresser as was his father.

There are 3 deaths in Lancashire for the name Robert Barber - March quarter 1846 Ashton ref 20 157.Sept quarter 1846 Manchester ref 29 692. Dec quarter 1849 Bolton ref 21 65. I can't find him on any later census than 1841.

Hi Di
On the 1841 census it states thar Robert was 50 so I deducted 50 from 1841 to get 1791 approx. I couldn't find any other trace of Robert either. I'll try the death certs & see if they throw any light on him.
By the way did you see the name of his son? born 1827 it looks like Ulgfar any ideas?
Thanks for your help
Sheila

Hi Sheila, not sure I have been any help. I thought that the name could be Walter, it is almost unreadable isn't it.:)

Hi Di
I thought it might be Walter too. Terrible writing isn't it. Thanks anyway. I have sent for Robert Barber's death cert for 1846 so keep your fingers crossed.
Regards Sheila
