Hi - I have the following from the IGI
21/11/1864 Albert Charles Holladay Wheeler parents Harry and Mary Ann.
I wonder if there are any notes attached to the entry that could indicate a private baptism as Albert seems also to have been baptised in 1867 at St Jude's (IGI).

I believe the father may have died in 1864 so I don't think it's two different Alberts.

Thanks in advance
Karen

Welcome Karen, There is nothing on the entry stating private baptism. The entry is exactly what you have. The only other information is abode Longmore Street and occupation Butcher. I hope this helps.Wendy.

Albert doesn't give many clues to his date of birth in Census entries.

Albert Charles Holladay Wheeler's birth was registered in the December quarter of 1864 - Kings Norton district. (from FreeBMD).

In 1861 his parents Harry and Mary Ann were living in Sherburne (?) Road, Kings Norton, with their daughter Alice Maud aged 2. Both Mary Ann and Maud were born in Alvechurch, Worcs. Harry is a Butcher's (asst?) and was born in Birmingham c 1836.
RG9; Piece: 2121; Folio: 13.

By 1871 Mary Ann is a widow, running the Fox & Dogs pub on High Street, Dudley. Alice Maud is with her but there is no mention of Albert! Also with them is Eliza Faulkner aged 16 a Domestic Servant from Beech Lanes, Quinton. RG10; Piece: 3011; Folio: 52.. There is an Albert aged 6 and his siter Florence aged 9 who may be Mary Ann's children, staying with James Faulkner and his family in Beech Lanes, Quinton. The Faulkners may be relatives. RG10; Piece: 3018; Folio: 51

Hope this helps.

Judy

Thanks everybody for your incredible help - I should have replied sooner - I've been checking censuses and maps all morning! I have found the census entries but hadn't noticed that Eliza faulkner was living with Mary Ann and Alice (thanks Judy) - that ties up with James and Sarah - they were previously living in Barford Street South (1851) in Birmingham - not far from the Wheelers at Sherborne road/Longmore Street - maybe it was a corner shop?

I have Albert's marriage entry from Liverpool RO and he was 24 on October 23rd 1889 which ties in with a baptism in Nov 1864 - I think he must have just been christened twice for some reason - there don't seem to be any other births with that name.

Oh - and I think you are right Judy about the Faulkners possibly being relatives - I'm now looking into a possibility of Mary Ann Wheeler (nee Holladay) and Sarah Faulkner (Cutler) being cousins.
