Balsall Heath Police

I believe the two officers in post 11 are Specials. I say that as they have flat caps and it looks like the one has the letter R prefix to his number so attached to Headquarters. I have seen several service records for special with this prefix. Any chance of a copy of these pictures for the museum?

The police box image (now moved to Birmingham City Police thread) was taken at Five ways, Edgbaston, as for the two policemen in the original photo, it was not taken outside the Edward Road police Station I remember. Although it is entirely possible it might have been outside the Council Public Works Department depot next door to the station. That is if they changed the stonework walls for brick at sometime, but I always remember them as brick even back as far as the early 1950's.

Hi ellbrown, this is really interesting. I have been researching my family history for some years now. As part of this research I have discovered that my father's first wife's mother (Hannah Palmer) worked as a cook at this police station in 1911. I suspect that the building may have looked a little different to those shown in your post.

Not really thought about that police station for years now. Mostly look out for the buildings on the Moseley Road from the no 50 bus.

I've been editing this list over the years on Wikipedia.

You can use my photos, which I originally posted from my Flickr account. Please credit me if you use them, I use Creative Commons licences. On Flickr there is BBCode or HTML code that you can copy and past into the site. Click the photo to open it in Flickr, then press the "Share Photo" button (looks like a right arrow). Then click either the Embed or BBCode options. Then select the size you want.

It's a shame that so many police stations in the West Midlands have closed down.
Some have been sold. Others demolished (e.g. Shirley).
 
Just browsing this thread and on post 28 in 2017 it has a list of police stations in 1933.
It has Erdington , Wilton road, tel 1111 which is still there and later Marsh lane 111 tel. 1132.
My parents lived at 111 Marsh Lane from 1950-1970 my dad was a policeman, we had a blue telephone box on the wall of the house by the front door, we also had an internal phone with direct line to Wilton road.In the days before police radios the beat constables in the area would have come to the blue box to call in at a given time to see they were still safe or perhaps still at work, lol.
 
There was also a Police Station at Hobs Moat, originally a Warwickshire force station. Not sure when it closed, possibly 70s or 80s.

I certainly remember the Kingshurst police station. Chap in a high powered Vauxhall tried to cut me up at the Coleshill roundabout and ended up hitting my car, he chased me up the road towards bacons end trying to force me off the road. We both ended up in the foyer of Kingshurst police station in a very agitated state, the desk Sergeant told us both to get out or he would arrest the pair of us, we left.
