Hi I have asked before, sorry for going on, but has anyone any information/photos of the back houses 96 Lichfield Road, my grandfather and family lived there in the early 1900's' their name was Pugh. Fingers crossed.

Here is a large scale plan of the area around 1889 showing no 96 in red and back 96 in blue.

Denise I have found out that there was a Mr John Wright living in one of the back to backs by Aston station. I will mention your granddads name to his daughter Val. Jean.

Mike,
Where would No.95 have been,it's the house I was born in,It was opposite Ansells, and was bombed during the war.

It wasn't directly opposite Ansells, as you can see on the map, but just down the road, mrked in red. In 1888 it was ocupied by a stay and corset maker.

Thanks for that Mike.
It was a bit of a mystery to me,I don't remember living there but I do remember the move,it's my earliest memory. We moved with our furniture on a flat handcart, and I could never understand why they pushed that cart up the second steepest hill in Brum (Portland St.) ,when an easy option was,the slight incline of Victoria Rd.but of course that would have meant passing the police station.
So I asked my dad why was it dark...simple, it was against the law to move furniture after dark, and we were doing a "moonlight flit".

remember them being demolished i used to play in them as a kid i did have a ken pugh living next door to me in nechells i think is mothers name was nelly that would be in the 60s-70 dont know if they are related sorry if i got this all wrong

Hi Fatboys and welcome to the forum. Denise is looking for people who remember her relatives the Pughs. Fingers crossed. Jean.

My friend just told me that there used to be the Lay family from one of the back to backs here. Wonder if anyone remembers them?. Jean.

Hi fatboys, thanks for your input, don't recall the name Ken Pugh but have heard of a Nelly, unfortunately I never asked questions and don't know much about my grandads family apart from the fact he lived in a back house off Lichfield Road, if I remember correctly he had a sister but as yet haven't been able to find out if there were any other family members. Denise

Hi Alan, I am feeling so guilty now, perhaps if you could let me have the title of the book I could search for it save you doing it. I really appreciate all you are doing. Thanking you very much Denise
