Brummie yes ! Novice no !
The 'then' pictures are taken from old postcards, the 'now' pictures taken from Google Streetview.
The older of the pictures is thought to date from the 1900's.

Although one card is coloured (manually). the other b & w, surely the actual photograph is the same one, as there are exactly the same people in the same places

I think when they colour them, very often some of the fine detail disappears, or is slightly blurred. At the time I'm sure people thought coloured ones were much better (and I'm sure there was a large price differential), but i usually think I can see mor eon the B & W ones
