I have recently come across an Francis Barnet 150cc bought from Aston Autos in 1960 by Wallace Atkins in Bolehall and then by Donald Charles James from 14 Stretton Road, Aston B'ham 6 in June 1970. It was MOT'd by Aston Autos by Ron Tims who was a mechanic there but also rode for Cradley Speedway. The bike is for sale so any family please reply if interested

Bit late to the party on this one but seeing Aston Autos thread featured took me right back to my mis-spent youth, much of it spent on two wheels in and around Brum. Attached pic is my 1959 Beezer I bought from AA in 1963. Those early C 15's with the points and condenser located distributor-style on top of the gearbox were an absolute pig....an oil leak on wheels! I must have had the primary chain and gearbox side covers off a hundred times trying to seal them but to no avail. A look at the stains all over the back yard tells the story....my Dad gave me hell about the mess! Photo6623(1).jpg

mine leaked bad too but apart from that it was a reliable bike.

My first 2 wheels with an engine was a Lambretta (LD). A bit like the one the young lady is sat on in post 37 above. Passed my test on it. Sold it when drive shaft broke. There was a restored one for sale locally a while ago for about 4500 euro. Just managed to avoid scratching that itch.

My late brother Jack loved to tell the story of his mate Roy Lawton, that worked at Aston Auto's, getting him a job there. At the end of the first week, Roy had a rather thick pay packet and thought that he had got a rise. However, it turned out that he got his cards.
